Weird Week

With the week beginning with the celebration of the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr - and ending with the Inauguration of Donald Trump... let's just say it's a weird week for all people of faith.

And as we turn to the lectionary we hear Jesus calling to the disciples. Come - follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

As we have traveled this week from Martin Luther King's celebration - through the US Inauguration of an openly racist and misogynistic nationalist president, countered by peaceful rallies all over the globe the next day - we can't help but to be exhausted. Yet we are called away from our boats to follow Jesus.

And as we find our salvation and freedom in the life of Christ (yes - the life of Christ not the death) we know that our freedom is tied up with all of our brothers and sisters. Therefore - we who believe in freedom can not rest.
